Gaza’s Infrastructure Collapsing Under Continuous Attacks

On its Facebook page, the Gaza Municipality affirmed that the destruction inflicted on its building, infrastructure, and service facilities was significant and unprecedented. The proportion of destruction is rising steadily due to the aggression against the Gaza Strip, which has been going for more than 330 days.

The aggression has caused grave damage to roads, water networks and wells, and rainwater drainage and sanitation systems. Waste has also increased significantly to some 150,000 tonnes. In addition to approximately 12,000 square metres of roads, the Israeli occupying forces (IOF) destroyed 126 (or 80%) of the municipality’s vehicles, particularly heavy machinery, used to collect waste, maintain water networks, and address sanitation issues.

According to the municipality, during their incursion, the IOF uprooted almost 55,000 trees, caused varying degrees of damage to some 62 (or 75%) of water wells in the city, and destroyed 90,000 linear metres of water networks, 165,000 linear metres of wastewater pipelines, 34 municipal administrative offices, eight public parks, and eight wastewater treatment plants.

This destruction has deepened the health and environmental crisis in the city, increased the prevalence of pandemic diseases, and exacerbated humanitarian suffering. It has also caused significant difficulties in public access to basic services, particularly water, sanitation, and waste collection.
