Translation on the Ground
From Planning to Community and Local Economy
At this level, APLA concentrated on transferring SDGs from the planning level to the community sphere through educational, environmental, and economic interventions led by LGU in partnership with local communities. These interventions translated SDGs into tangible daily practices for the benefit of children, youth, schools, and the local economy.
Community Indicators
- Funding nine green entrepreneurial initiatives.
- Implementing a wide-scale tree-planting campaign across 22 LGUs.
o Planting approximately 1,575 seedlings.
o Engaging some 400 community volunteers. - Supplying 21 LGUs with more than 2,500 waste containers.
- More than 480 children benefited from school-based awareness activities.
- Implemented a green business incubator project in Beit Liqya.

- Implemented “Building Tomorrow: Children for Sustainable Development” event in Sabastiya, ‘Asira al-Shamaliya, and Beit Furik.
- Implemented the “Sustainable Development Stories” initiative in partnership with ESCWA and the Ministry of Education.
- Produced a Braille version of “Sustainable Development Stories” for persons with visual impairments.
- Conducted training on producing environmental media content as part of the “Green Screen” initiative.
Integrating Participation Tools into Environmental Policy Making
Year Summary
The foundations of an approach linking environmental planning with citizens’ right to contribute to setting priorities were established, enhancing the institutional capacity of LGUs to design policies that are more responsive and closely aligned with the situation on the ground.
Key Features
- Introduced the Community Participation Programme, which includes over 70 practical tools that can be readily integrated into daily municipal functions.
- Discussed the National Guidelines for Environmental Policies and defined the role of LGUs in putting them in place in line with their mandates and responsibilities.
